Student Athletic Trainer Scholarship

 

PURPOSE

To recognize distinguished service as a student athletic trainer for a local high school and community

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduating high school this scholastic year

  • Recommended by your athletic trainer who is a member of this association in good standing

  • Submit requested paperwork as listed below

 

 

PROCEDURE

  1. A current, official high school transcript with GPA figured on a 4.0 scale along with class rank

  2. Nomination letter from your sponsoring high school athletic trainer

  3. One letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach, counselor or administrator who can speak to your abilities and qualities (academic & leadership abilities, community involvement, interpersonal skills, integrity and potential)

  4. Resume including leadership positions, community service, accomplishments, awards, teams worked with, organizations joined and summer activities.

  5. Personal statement – one page describing what this scholarship will enable you to do and why the scholarship is important. You may also address what you have learned by being a student athletic trainer.

  6. Proof of acceptance into a college or university

 

 

By submitting the required items for consideration of a scholarship, you are providing the Sun City Athletic Trainers’ Association (SCATA) with permission to use your name and likeness on the SCATA website.

 

We reserve the right to not award the scholarship if all
applicants do not meet the above criteria
.

SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

Four (4) scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $500.00.  Scholarships are one time only awards and are not renewable. Applications will be available annually from scholarship committee members. The deadline for the 2023-2024 school year is Monday, April 24 2024.

 

 

The scholarship committee consists of a chairperson and one representative from each major school district, i.e. El Paso ISD, Ysleta ISD, Socorro ISD. There is also one representative to represent the smaller outlying districts. Committee membership is open to any one that is a current member of SCATA.

 

The winner will be selected based on a combination of academic achievement and character. The winner will be notified by the scholarship committee.

 

Awarding of the scholarship will occur once verification documentation has been received by the SCATA treasurer that the applicant has registered and is in attendance at their selected college or university. Applicant must be registered as a full time student during the fall semester following their graduation.  Award will be made out in the form a cashier’s check in the name of the recipient as stated on the application.

 

 

CRITERIA

  • The applicant must have worked as a student athletic trainer for a period of at least 2 semesters at their respective high school.

  • The applicant must have at least a 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

  • A professionally licensed/certified athletic trainer who is a current member in good standing with SCATA must sponsor the applicant

  • The applicant must submit a statement or unofficial transcript from his/her high school registrar indicating the applicant’s current GPA and class rank through the most recently completed school semester

  • Two letters of recommendation must be sent to the committee chairperson.  One must be from the sponsoring athletic trainer.  The other may be from a teacher, counselor, coach, or administrator.

  • The applicant will submit a one page biography of which should include why they feel they deserve the scholarship.

  • If chosen to be the recipient of the scholarship, the applicant must submit a letter of acceptance from the college or university he/she will be attending prior to receiving the awards.
